Technology Solutions
Cost-effective opportunities exist today to begin reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and a number of emerging technologies look to deliver more substantial reductions in the future.
Coal Initiative Series
The Pew Center has published three papers in an ongoing series addressing domestic and international policy options for reducing coal-related GHG emissions. Emissions from coal present one of the most significant challenges in addressing global climate change. Coal use, primarily for the generation of electricity, now accounts for roughly 20 percent of global GHG emissions. Carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) is likely to play a critical role in reducing global emissions from coal. Papers in this series address key considerations for CCS involving financing, technology, and policy.
