"Today the House Energy and Commerce Committee achieved something extraordinary – passage of a bill that sets us on a path to tackle climate change, drive our economic recovery, and advance our energy independence," said Pew Center President Eileen Claussen [1] following the committee's approval of landmark legislation. In a 33-25 vote, the committee approved the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 [2] (ACES ACT). This comprehensive national climate and energy legislation calls for an economy-wide, greenhouse gas cap-and-trade system and critical complementary measures.
