The U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee will debate comprehensive national climate and energy legislation, with a markup session beginning May 18 to consider the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.

Committee Chairman Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Energy and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Edward Markey (D-MA) introduced the bill, HR 2454, which calls for an economy-wide, greenhouse gas cap-and-trade system and critical complementary measures.
