Montana RPS
MT: On April 28, 2005, Governor Brian Schweitzer signed into law Senate Bill 415, The Montana Renewable Power Production and Rural Economic Development Act, which established a renewable energy portfolio standard for the state. SB 415 mandates that 15 percent of the state’s energy come from renewable sources by 2015, and for each year thereafter. Sources of energy that count toward the standard include wind, solar, geothermal, existing hydroelectric projects, landfill or farm-based methane gas, wastewater-treatment gas, low-emission, nontoxic biomass, and fuel cells where hydrogen is produced with renewable fuels.
